Open Role: Massachusetts Foster Coordinator

A Place for Ace is growing, and we are in dire need of a dedicated Massachusetts Foster Coordinator to join our team! If you are independent, dog-obsessed, and ready to make a massive impact on rescue dogs' lives, we need you.

About the Role

Fosters are the lifeblood of our rescue, and as our MA Foster Coordinator, you will be their primary guide and support system. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting & Onboarding: Seeking out new foster families and conducting thorough phone screenings and interviews.
  • Roster Management: Maintaining an organized database of available fosters, their contact info and their comfort levels with specific dog behaviors.
  • Foster Support: Being the go-to person once a dog is placed. This includes coordinating food and medicine, arranging training sessions, finding coverage when fosters go on vacation, and maintaining a strong relationship with our rescue trainer.
  • Matchmaking Insight: Working closely with our Adoptions Director to highlight each dog’s specific behaviors, ensuring we know exactly what type of environment will set each dog up for success.
  • Content Collection: Gathering regular photo updates from fosters so we can enthusiastically showcase the dogs for adoption on social media.
  • Proactive Safety Monitoring: Keeping a sharp eye out for any safety concerns in foster homes and gently but firmly coaching our foster families through proper protocols (like double-leashing or door management) to keep everyone secure.

The "Must-Haves"

  • Deep Canine Knowledge: You must have a strong understanding of dog behavior, decompression, and common rescue quirks (e.g., food aggression, reactivity, and anxiety).
  • Remote Flexibility: Dogs don't work a 9-to-5. You need the ability to support fosters remotely, which might mean fielding a text at 7:00 AM or 8:00 PM.
  • Dog-First Mentality: Dedicated to prioritizing the dog's best interests, balancing empathy for our human volunteers with a firm commitment to what the dog truly needs.
  • Independence & Grit: We need a dedicated team player with a great sense of humor who thrives independently and requires very little hand-holding.
  • Grace Under Pressure: You must be able to handle high-stress situations calmly and effectively.
  • Unwavering Passion: A massive heart for rescue dogs.

The "Nice-to-Haves"

  • A desire to get out into the community and attend our events to recruit new fosters face-to-face.
  • Prior experience working with dogs, or previous time spent in a shelter/rescue environment.
  • A working knowledge of Excel and Google Docs.

The Time Commitment

The commitment ebbs and flows. Some weeks the support needs are heavy (especially when our dogs first arrive from Texas!), and other weeks are much lighter.

  • Average: ~10 hours a week.

Ready to Join the Team?

If you have the grit, the heart, and the humor to take on this vital role, we want to hear from you immediately.

More ways to help!

A Place for Ace was created with the goal of saving dogs from high kill shelters in the southern United States. Approximately 1.5 million HEALTHY dogs are killed each year due to overpopulation and neglect. All of our dogs are worthy of love and have come from shelters in the south. They are vetted, spayed/neutered and ready for full time forever families!
